Developers Chuwi in the summer of 2017 on the platform Indiegogo collected more than $ 1,000,000 to produce a tablet 2-in-1 Chuwi SurBook. Thanks to this, the company entered the top 20 best fundraising on the platform. All those who supported the project with the investment received their tablets on time. On the world market, the device came out at a price from 399 to 451 $. Now the Chinese company Chuwi introduced a more reduced version – Chuwi SurBook Mini. The price of the tablet will be $ 279, sales will begin on November 13.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Specifications
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Design
The SurBook Mini tablet has an all-metal casing with a stepless kickstand angle, which is adjustable from 0 to 125 °. With its help, the user can install the device in any convenient position. Mounting the stand provides a reliable fixation in the specified position, and, according to the manufacturer, has a high level of durability. Dimensions of the device are 276.4 x 184.8 x 8.8 mm, weight – 0.6860 kg.
All major ports are located on the right side of the tablet. There are not many of them, but there is the most important thing: two full-size USB-A 3.0 and symmetric USB Type-C port. The latter is a universal solution since it can be used for charging, transmitting audio and video signals, as well as for high-speed data exchange between drives and other compatible devices. A separate audio interface of 3.5 mm is provided for connecting headphones and a headset.
The microSD card slot is also located on the right side, but you need to push the built-in tripod to gain access to it.
Two stereo speakers answer the sound reproduction, the gratings of which can be found on the side faces on the right and on the left.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Display
The tablet is equipped with 10.8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1280 and multitouch for 10 touches. The screen has an optimal by modern standards ratio of the sides (3: 2), for comfortable web surfing and convenient work with office software.
The tablet screen has wide viewing angles, demonstrates excellent color rendering, contrast, and high brightness. At the maximum brightness level of the backlight (450 cd / m2), the image is perfectly visible even on a sunny day.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Performance
The tablet uses a 64-bit processor Intel Celeron N3450 family Apollo Lake, which is made using a 14-nm process technology. The chip consists of 4 cores with a micro-architecture Goldmont, works with a frequency from 1.1 GHz to 2.2 GHz. As the graphics subsystem uses the integrated video core Intel HD 500, with support for DirectX 12.
As a result, a sufficient level of performance is provided for video playback in 4K resolution, work with office software and resource-demanding programs, such as Photoshop and AutoCAD.
The model is presented from RAM in 4 GB of DDR3L and an internal storage capacity of 64 GB. Double the amount of internal memory can be due to microSD card (maximum up to 128 GB). The manufacturer used eMMC 5.0 drives that are not as fast as SSDs installed in Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4. Accordingly, the programs installed in the internal memory of the Chuwi SurBook Mini will be launched more slowly. But this does not mean that the tablet PC will be too slow in everyday work. The tablet is running Windows 10.
All this together allows to provide a sufficient level of performance for video playback in 4K resolution, work with office software and demanding resources for programs such as Photoshop and AutoCAD. The device can easily cope with the launch of games from the App Store, as well as full-size, but not too demanding games, such as Battlefield 2.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Camera
The tablet has two cameras – the main one with a resolution of 5 megapixels and the front camera – 2 megapixels. With the front camera with a resolution of 2 MP, as well as a built-in microphone, it supports voice communication and video communication. The main 5-megapixel camera module can be used for technical shooting (for example, for scanning documents).
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Cooling system
The Celeron N3450 is a low-cost, energy-efficient processor with a relatively low heat dissipation. The maximum power consumption of this chip is only 6 watts. SurBook Mini is equipped with a passive, completely silent cooling system based on graphene. With intense and prolonged loads, the metal surface of the housing can be heated. But even in such cases, the heat sink system effectively protects the internal components of the device from impact.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Wireless Interfaces
The network capabilities of this model are supported by a dual-band module Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0. The absence of a GPS/GLONASS module does not apply to shortcomings since navigation services are rarely used on a tablet with such a screen diagonal. In extreme cases, you can use an external USB GPS receiver. What really is missing is an integrated module for connecting to the Internet via 3G/4G networks. On the other hand, the problem can easily be solved by connecting an external modem to a free USB port.
Chuwi SurBook Mini: Battery
For autonomy, Chuwi SurBook Mini meets a lithium-ion polymer battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh. The tablet supports fast charging PD2.0. The average user of the battery will be missed for about 8 hours, in moderately active mode.
