Fujifilm has introduced its new Instax Square SQ10, a digital/instant camera that aesthetically nods in the direction of the cameras a few decades ago. It is a device that combines past and present, equipped with a 3-inch display, and 460,000 points and destined to audiences who want to approach the world of digital photography.
The Instax Square SQ10 is a hybrid, half-digital, mid-film. Besides this feature, the Instax Square SQ10 is also the first model to be compatible with Fujifilm’s new Square format. This is a real turning point for Fujifilm that unites the strengths of its Instax Share printer with those of silver and instantaneity. Will digital and film make a good pairing? In any case, the technical characteristics are exciting.
The Instax Square SQ10 is equipped with a 1/4-inch CMOS sensor and a fixed focal length of 28.5 mm, so it is possible to capture digital images, but also to record them on a microSD card. The sensor is 100 to 1600 ISO and the exposure is measured on 256 zones The definition of the images generated is announced in 1920 x 1920 px The principle of operation of the SQ10 reminds us furiously that of the Polaroid Snap Instant and Snap Instant Touch, and the SQ10 incorporates a color LCD display for live viewing, editing and pre-print processing.
Apart from the possibility of saving its images, the digital will also allow the editing of the photos before printing. Ten color filters, saturation effects, vignetting control and brightness control are provided to enhance image rendering. We also find the photo modes like the double exposure or the pose B.
As for image quality, we hope that the hybrid system via the sensor, image processing and the intrinsic quality of the paper will be up to par. Obviously, the interest lies in the possibility of checking his photos before printing, to possibly catch up with an underexposed or overexposed image, for example, or simply to start again the shooting. Exit, the risk of missed photo and paper mess. This is good news, especially given the price of film cartridges which is on average 9.99 € for a pack of 10 views.
Rounded shapes, compact design, the Instax Square SQ10 is true to the brand. To facilitate the grip, two triggers are present, one on the left, the other on the right – a builder who thinks of left-handers is rare. The lens ring is made of metal and other elements are made of resin. The SQ10 is equipped with a rechargeable battery and a micro-USB input to charge the device directly.
The aircraft will be available on May 19, 2017 at an approximate price of € 289.
