ZTE Nubia V18 first review: mid-range smartphone with 5000 mAh battery

Today, the sub-brand of ZTE, Nubia, has officially announced a new mid-range smartphone Nubia V18. From the name of the new smartphone, we understand that this is an easy version of the Nubia N3. It uses the same configuration processor/RAM, but slightly different from other functions. This device has a lot of very interesting features that go far beyond the limits outlined for phones of this price level.

In the near future, Nubia V18 will compete for hard Xiaomi Redmi 5 and other models of its market segment. Interested in potential buyers V18 will not full-screen design and not a powerful chip Snapdragon. However unusual it may sound, the debutant has a more interesting feature, which we must certainly pay attention to.

 Nubia V18: Design

Continuing the tradition of the brand, Nubia V18 continues to use its own design of the URC from Nubia, which has more rounded edges and corners. We find his signature in a red circle around the photo module.

Almost the entire front surface is occupied by a 6.01-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9. However, to talk about this frameless with regard to the budget apparatus is conditional. The framework is, just their size in Nubia V18 is not as significant as before.

The case of Nubia V18 is entirely made of polycarbonate. It is not necessary to see a negative point, thanks to quality materials and innovative production technologies, this material provides a comfortable grip.

Dimensions of the device are length 158.7 mm, width 75.5 mm and thickness 7.8 mm. The weight of the phone is 170 grams.

Due to the fact that the thickness of the smartphone is only 7.8 mm it is very convenient to keep it with one hand and do simple gesture management operations. So the phone is very good from the point of view of ergonomics.

On the back of the phone, at the top and bottom, there is a U-design line for antennas. Although the installation of the rear camera resembles a dual camera, in fact, there is only one lens. If you look closely, the “second lens” will be just a very large LED flash.

Around the module of the camera, we see a red accent, which is typical for Nubia devices. In the middle of the case is a fingerprint scanner.

There are four color options available: meteorites black, space gold, ivory white and Nebula red.

Nubia V18: Specifications

As I said earlier, Nubia V18 occupies the same base as Nubia N3, namely Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory expandable with microSD up to 128 GB.

The Nubia V18 is equipped with a 6.01-inch display with FHD+ resolution, with an 86% screen-to-case ratio. Fortunately, it does not have a cutout in the display, so the aspect ratio is 18: 9.

The rear camera includes a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 and with PDAF, and in front is installed an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 (wide-angle sensor). The camera uses NeoVision 7.0 image processing algorithm.

The company also included some possibilities of artificial intelligence on V18. Thus, there is an assistant who should help set reminders, take notes and the like, plus AI algorithms for improving photos.

Inside there is a battery with a capacity of up to 4000 mAh. NeoPower 3.0 energy saving system allows the smartphone to work without recharging up to 2 days of battery life. You can also use the phone to charge other devices. Nubia V18 is launched with Android 7.1 Nougat with the Nubia UI 5.1 shell.

The phone is equipped with a fingerprint scanner at the back, but the company says it will release an update that will unlock the phone through the user’s face recognition. At the bottom of the device you will find a Micro-USB port, and on the top – a 3.5-mm audio jack.

All the above functions and specifications make us more serious about the category of mid-range phones. Let some of them weaker than they could be, but the full-screen design and the presence of the Snapdragon 625 chipset put everything in its place.
