Vivo V9 first review: mid-range phone with 24 MP camera

Vivo has expanded the range of smartphones with a new model – Vivo V9. This is the second announcement of a new model this week from the company Vivo.

On Monday, the flagship Vivo X21 smartphone with the fingerprint reader integrated under the display was officially introduced, and yesterday the event was dedicated to the release of a slightly less powerful but also very decent Vivo V9. In terms of specifications, yesterday’s debutant is almost inferior, and in some nuances and surpasses the more expensive model X21.

The beginner has a gorgeous 6.3-inch display with a cutout, a dual main camera with vertically positioned lenses that can be seen on the back of the device, and a powerful front camera for a selfie. Loses Vivo V9 only in the material of the rear panel of the case – it has a metal case, and the X21 has a glass one. But this, rather, is a matter of taste.

Vivo V9: Design

Following the fashion trends, Vivo V9 received an iPhone X-shaped cutout at the top of the display, which housed a powerful 24-megapixel self-camera and all the necessary sensors.

Almost the entire front surface is occupied by a 6.3-inch display with a ratio of 19: 9.
The width of the upper frame is 1.85 mm, 1.75 mm at the sides and 5.9 mm at the bottom of the display. Thus, it was possible to achieve a 90-percent ratio of the size of the display to the size of the case. Completely get rid of the scope of the manufacturer failed, but they have significantly decreased, compared to the display of the previous generation.

The back cover of the novelty is also copied from the Apple product. It contains a double chamber with a vertical arrangement, which is in the upper left corner. Below it there is an LED flash and almost in the middle of the cover, there is a place for a fingerprint scanner. Even lower we see the name of the manufacturer – Vivo.

Among other things, the Vivo V9 boasts a metal body with dimensions of length 154.81 mm, a width of 75.03 mm and a thickness of 7.89 mm. A weight of the device is 150 grams.

Produced Vivo V9 will be in two colors: Gold and Black.

Vivo V9: Specifications

As already noted, Vivo V9 received a 6.3-inch display (FHD +) 1080 × 2280 pixels with a ratio of 19: 9. However, it should be noted that this is not an OLED display, like the X21.

Vivo V9 runs on the 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626. Probably, the manufacturers decided that the users were already tired of the Snapdragon 625 processor, so they changed it’s Snapdragon 626. The difference is that the SD626 has a higher clock speed (2.2 GHz) and comes with TruSignal® Antenna Boost.

The novelty also has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by installing it in a special microSD card slot.

The connectivity is quite standard: 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, 3.5 mm headphone jack and Micro-USB port.

The device is equipped with a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 3260 mAh with support for fast charging and can be charged via the Micro-USB port.

Vivo V9: Camera

The highlight of Vivo V9 is a front camera with a resolution of 24 megapixels and aperture f/2.0.
This is the second smartphone presented this week, with a front camera of this resolution. The first was Huawei Nova 3e – the world’s first smartphone, equipped with a 24-megapixel sensor Sony IMX578.

The photo module works in tandem with the AI Face Beauty software, which can recognize the user’s age and gender, skin tone and lighting condition when it is necessary to make a quality selfie. A combination of AI algorithms and functions such as Natural Light, Monochrome Bugger, and Studio Light allows you to take the best shots without resorting to manual settings.

Vivo also added Face Detection called AI Face Access, which can be used to unlock the phone if you do not want to use the fingerprint scanner located on the back panel.

The combined main dual camera consists of 16MP + 5MP sensors and is traditionally on the back of the device.
